Schwartz accepted a faculty position at Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1980 and remained there for over 35 years.[https://web.archive.org/web/20091220090519/http://gslis.simmons.edu/blogs/candy/about/] Schwartz introduced several technology courses at Simmons - web design, database management, information architecture, digital libraries, and a "boot camp" tech competency - before they were standard elements of any LIS curriculum.
