'''Lluís Codina''' was born in Barcelona, Spain, on 6 May 1955.

He began his academic career as a research fellow at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he completed his doctoral programme.

At the UAB, he gained his first experience as a predoctoral researcher and as a member of a competitively funded research project. He also undertook his first teaching activities in library and information science applied to journalism. His doctoral dissertation, defended at the UAB in 1993, addressed systems theory and audiovisual documentation.

Since joining Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona, in 1991, he has served as Academic Secretary of UPF’s Faculty of Journalism, Director of the Teaching Innovation Unit within the same faculty, Director of the Master’s Degree in Communication Research, and Coordinator of the Digital Documentation and Interactive Communication Research Group.

He founded and is a member of the editorial team of the academic journal Hipertext.net (Web of Science). He has served as President of the Catalan Society for Information and Documentation (SOCADI) and as a member of the governing board of the Official Association of Librarians and Information Specialists of Catalonia. He has also been a member of the governing board of the Catalan Society for Communication, an affiliate of the Institute of Catalan Studies.

As part of his knowledge-transfer activities at Pompeu Fabra University, he developed the DigiDoc Editorial Series, the Observatory of Cybermedia, and the Communication Reports Collection.

He has also taken part in numerous competitively funded research projects, serving as principal investigator on three consecutive research projects under the Spanish Ministry of Science’s National R&D&I Plan, as well as participating in research projects funded by the Government of Catalonia.

He evaluates academic careers for the Catalan Government’s quality-assurance agency (AQU) and research projects for Spain’s State Research Agency (AEI).

His record in training researchers is reflected in his supervision of 22 doctoral dissertations, 11 of them completed as thesis-by-publication.
