Hayes served as Vice-President until 1974 when Hayes become Dean of the UCLA School of Library and Information Science. Two years after being founded, Becker & Hayes became a subsidiary of John Wiley & Sons.

Becker and Hayes, Incorporated was founded in 1969 by Joseph Becker and Robert Hayes for consulting and publishing. Becker was President. Hayes served as Vice-President until 1974 when Hayes become Dean of the UCLA School of Library and Information Science.
