Don Hillman

Donald Hillman (1931-2018) was a pioneer of information science. He worked at Lehigh University for 52 years.

Contributions
Developed a special mechanized retrieval system at Lehigh; Creator of the Leadermart System, the most powerful text retrieval system of its time (late 60s, early 70s); Worked on early computer-based bibliographic record systems (Leader, Leadermart) at Lehigh University with NSF support; Also did early studies on logic and linguistics; Innovative online system LEADER--ahead of his time in the theoretical development--see Bellardo and Bourne draft (Bellardo); In last few years has not been doing much IR work but is still active in such areas as databases, expert systems, hypermedia, etc.
