Contributions
Design and development of an online information retrieval system for Lehigh libraries, LEADERMART (LEhigh Automatic Device for Efficient Retrieval for Mart Science and Engineering Library), which was made commercially available to anyone. LEADERMART was the first fully operational public online search service and the frst online search service to institute connect-hour charging (Bourne & Hahn 2003, pp 308 & 311).
Worked on early computer-based bibliographic record systems (Leader, Leadermart) at Lehigh University with NSF support; Also did early studies on logic and linguistics; Innovative online system LEADER--ahead of his time in the theoretical development--see Bellardo and Bourne draft (Bellardo); In last few years has not been doing much IR work but is still active in such areas as databases, expert systems, hypermedia, etc.
