José Ramón Pérez Álvarez-Ossorio
José Ramón Pérez Álvarez-Ossorio (1932-) is an Spanish information scientist.
Life
José Ramón Pérez Álvarez-Ossorio was born in 1932 in Seville, Spain.
He graduated in Chemistry from the University of Seville and received his doctorate in Chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid.
In 1956, he joined the Information and Documentation Center (CID) of the Juan de la Cierva Foundation for Scientific and Technical Research, part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), in Madrid.
In 1962, he became Deputy Director of the CID. From 1963 to 1969, he served as Commissioner for International Scientific Cooperation and Director General for Scientific Promotion and Cooperation at the Ministry of Education and Science; and as Secretary General of the Advisory Commission on Scientific Research, attached to the Office of the Prime Minister of Spain.
He was Spain's delegate to the OECD's Committees on Research and Science Policy, and president of the Spanish Commission for UNISIST (UNESCO). From 1968 to 1983, he was director of the CID, a center that in 1975 became the Institute of Information and Documentation in Science and Technology (ICYT) and later the Center for Scientific Information and Documentation (CINDOC).

President of the Spanish Commission to the Federation of Information and Documentation (FID) (of which he was named Honorary Fellow)
Member of the Working Groups of the Ministry of Education and Science for the establishment of Guidelines for a National Plan for the Development of Scientific Documentation in Spain (PLANIDOC).
President of Commission 50 "Documentation" of the Spanish Association for Standardization (AENOR).
On May 10, 1957, he married María Jurado Fernández in Seville, Spain.
He retired in 2002.
Contributions
He directed the Information and Documentation Center (CID/ICYT), Spain's leading center for information science, which participated in international research projects, developed thesauri and databases, and was a major document delivery center.
He was a frequent speaker at conferences and congresses.
He represented Spain in the Federation of Information and Documentation (FID) and other organizations.
He was the editor of the "Revista Española de Documentación Científica" (Spanish Journal of Scientific Documentation), Spain's leading information science journal.
