Arthur W. Elias (1927-2011) was an American editor, publisher and author in the information industry.

Life

Arthur W. "Art" Elias was born on February 21, 1927 in New York city. Elias served in the US Navy in World War II and the Korean conflict. He studied at received an AS in 1948 from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a BS in 1950 from the University of Alabama. He also studied at the University of Buffalo and at Rutgers University, 1955-1956, where he received an MS in medical science.

Pharmacologist: Maltbie Labs (NJ); Warner-Lambert (NJ); Manager Science Information Section Wyeth Labs (PA); Director Publ. Institute for Science Information (Philadelphia); Associate Professor Information Science Drexel Institute, Graduate School of Library Science.

In 1992, he retired as director of marketing and distribution for Biological Abstracts Inc. in Philadelphia. He died March 7, 2011 in Jefferson, IN.

  • Elias served as editor of the American documentation, later Journal of the American Society for Information Science, from 1964.
  • Also edited the journal Information services and use.
