James Louis Dolby

James Louis Dolby (1926-1985) was a US mathematician and computer scientist.


Life

James Louis Dolby was born April 29, 1926. He became Manager, English Lab, GE 1951-60; Consulting engineer, Lockheed 1960-64; Consultant, Corp. Economic & Industrial Research 1964-65; Partner, R&D Consults Co. 1965-77; and, at San Jose State University, Associate Professor of Mathematics, 1966-74; then Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, 1974-1985. He died November 12, 1985.

Contributions

Dolby worked on index merging algorithms, data analysis, pattern recognition, and linguistic computation.
