The American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Information is a professional association for chemical information professionals.

The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a non-profit association founded in 1876 that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. Its publications include Chemical Abstracts Service.

ACS's Division of Chemical Information (CINF), founded 1947, promotes professional competency in information resources, information technology, and information policy. It is for both the chemistry librarian community and the chemical informatics research community.(CINF). As one of approximately 1,400 divisional members and affiliates, you will learn about the most current developments and practical application in producing, accessing. and using chemical information.

CINF Mission: The Division of Chemical Information of the American Chemical Society is committed to providing a forum for the exchange of information and expertise among the generators, developers, providers, and users of chemical information worldwide through innovative high-quality programs and publications and through opportunities for career development and recognition of excellence.

History

  • 1943 - Group formed within the ACS Division of Chemical Education.
  • 1948 - ACS Division of Chemical Literature formed,
  • 1975 - Name changed to Division of Chemical Information (CINF).

Activities

The Division of Chemical Information (ClNF) of the American Chemical Society is the source for maintaining professional competency in information resources, information technology, and information policy. No other ACS Division is as relevant to the professional lives of all researchers involved in any aspect of chemical research. As one of approximately 1,400 divisional members and affiliates, you will learn about the most current developments and practical application in producing, accessing. and using chemical information.

Meetings

CINF programs cover diverse topics targeted to the varied professional needs and interests of its broad membership, such as: information operations management, storage and retrieval of chemical information, drug design, commercial chemical information sources, computer-based information processes, electronic databases, organic syntheses, patents, copyright, environmental and regulatory information, structure-activity relationships, etc.

Awards

CINF sponsors the following awards

  • The Herman Skolnik Award to recognize outstanding contributions to and achievements in the theory and practice of chemical information science.
  • The Val Metanomski Meritorius Service Award to recognize outstanding contributions to the Division.
  • CINF Lifetime Award recognizes long term membership and outstanding service and active contributions to the Division over the years.
  • The Lucille M. Wert Student Scholarship to recruit persons into the profession of Chemical Information.

Publications

The Chemical Information Bulletin (CIB) [1], originally titled Chemical Literature, has been the quarterly publication of ACS CINF since 1949. Includes news and events, reports of meetings, book reviews, etc.
