Ernest Abadal i Falgueras is a professor and researcher at the University of Barcelona.
Life

Ernest Abadal i Falgueras was born in Sallent, Catalonia, Spain, on June 28, 1962.
He was dean of the Faculty of Library and Information Science (since 2019 called Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media, or, in Catalan, Facultat d'Informació i Mitjans Audiovisuals, FIMA) of the University of Barcelona between 2012 and 2018, and is one of the leading specialists on open access to science in Spain, as well as coordinator of several university research networks.
Currently he is Vice-Rector for Teaching and Research Staff at the University of Barcelona since 2021.
He has been the principal investigator of several projects under Spain's National R&D&I Plan on open access to science, and is coordinator of the Maredata Thematic Network on research data. He has participated in national and international conferences. He has coordinated the Open Access to Science working group, which has produced results such as MELIBEA, a directory of open access policies, and DULCINEA, which identifies the editorial policies of Spanish scientific journals with regard to open access.
He is the author of numerous research articles and several books. He is also one of the directors and driving forces behind the Blok de BiD project, which was published between 2010 and 2026, in which professionals from the world of information and documentation reviewed reports from international organizations.
