Dean of School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University (1967-84), director of AEC's Technical Information Service, director of the Department of Commerce Federal Clearinghouse for Scientific and Technical Information, editor of Government Publications Review and Information Processing and Management, president of the American Documentation Institute.  He also served on the governing council of the American Library Association.
